What is managed private AI?
Managed private AI is an operating service in which one defined workload runs through approved data, models, tools, infrastructure, authority rules, acceptance tests, and support processes. “Private” describes the documented boundary and routes. Buying a local workstation alone does not make a system secure, governed, or ready for production.

The service is the controlled operating path—not the model by itself.
A managed private AI system must name the job, approved knowledge, model behaviour, human authority, infrastructure, and ongoing operating owner.
Bound the job
Define the users, required result, consequences, and actions the system may never take.
Approve the sources
Set source authority, retrieval, provenance, retention, and refresh rules.
Measure behaviour
Select models, routing, evaluation cases, fallbacks, and adaptation only where justified.
Preserve authority
Apply identity, least privilege, approvals, logs, exceptions, and rollback.
Fit the environment
Size compute, storage, network, power, cooling, backup, and recovery.
Run the service
Monitor, patch, update, support, recover, and review evidence over time.
Privacy is a route record, not a location slogan.
Local or Canadian infrastructure can reduce some exposure, but the claim must include every material path.
A workload is ready to qualify when five conditions exist.
Ready to assess
- one valuable job can be bounded
- an accountable owner can approve data and access
- representative cases can be provided safely
- quality and operating thresholds can be stated
- the consequence justifies implementation and support
Not ready yet
- the request is “add AI everywhere”
- no one owns the result or data authority
- the buyer wants a compliance guarantee from location alone
- uncontrolled autonomous action is required
- hardware must be selected before the work is measured
Define the job before selecting the machine.
Map the workload, data routes, users, authority, and acceptance test without uploading confidential source material.
